Read on to find out more! Organising Office & Home Crate Hire UK Being organised is usually thought to provide the foundations of productivity. A tidy desk represents a clear and more efficient mind, or something like that. We've touched on a similar subject before, in Your Office Desk and You which is full of tips on how to stop your workspace getting cluttered in the first place. This time we are going to look at what you can do to cut down on the clutter once it has accumulated. It's easy to let 'stuff' accumulate around us, and most of us allow stacks of paper to grow on our desk tops. But clutter generally gets in the way of productivity and it can even affect our well being. Whilst a tidy desk is desirable, recent research has actually found that some clutter (personal knick-knacks for example) can actually aid creativity. Being neat and tidy is not necessarily the same as being organised, and you can have a cluttered environment that is actually, pretty well ordered, though your colleagues might not agree! With this in mind, the aim with your desk should be to have it well organised, rather than out and out clear or tidy.

Get Rid Of What You Don't Need

This may sound obvious, but seriously, take a moment to look through those papers stacked there. Old scribbled messages, proposals and notes on clients you no longer have, junk mail...all of these things have a stealth-like ability to hide and go unnoticed, so take a look and you'll probably find that most of those papers are no longer relevant or necessary, so get rid of them, taking care to shred anything containing sensitive information.

Organise Everything That You Do Need

Using a simple pen pot is better than having pens strewn across your desk or hidden away in draws. Likewise, Using box files, magazine files or storage crates for papers, is much better than letting a precarious leaning tower of paper spring up on your desk that you have to leaf through every time you need to find something. Don't make the mistake of thinking everything has to be on your desk. If you don't often use something (do you really need that stapler/ blu-tac/ random other item to be on your desk?), make sure you have storage, which will allow you to put it away. A set of drawers underneath or beside your desk is ideal, or if you are close to a wall, utilise wall space with shelving or a large book case. This will help you to get the clutter off your desk and organised away which will help you be more productive, unless you are a rare creative type who thrives in a messy environment. The key to being organised is not just having suitable storage, but in getting into the habit of actually using it. When you store things away in a designated space, they are often easier to find and you won't need to sweep armfuls of stuff off your desk each time you need to use it!

That's because at this time of year, as thoughts turn towards the holiday season and Christmas in particular, we often find start spending longer indoors and have more guests either popping in for visits or staying over with us. Why Autumn Is The Best Time To Organise Your Home Crate Hire UK Cold days and long dark nights, mean most of us spend much longer at home indoors than we do during the summer, mess in the home can cause stress whilst a tidy, clutter free home is proven to be good for our sense of well-being. With more time spent indoors and the likelihood of more visitors then, it's nice being able to relax, knowing that your home is clutter free, clean and tidy.

Spruce up your decorating

Check the state of repair of your internal woodwork and walls. Doors, frames and skirting boards take a lot of abuse, and suffer bangs, knocks and scrapes year round. This can leave them looking shabby, so spend a bit of time on general maintenance and decorating. Fill in any holes or gaps you find (this is also a good idea, as it reduces the number of entry points for spiders seeking a warm place to live over winter), and give wood work and walls a new lick of paint. Magic erasers are great for getting rid of scuffs, and you don't have to totally redecorate, just paint over any stubborn marks to lift your walls and to make your wood work look as good as new.

De clutter your home now

The volume of 'stuff' that you own will usually rise thanks to Christmas, and this is especially true if you have little ones. Now is a great time to have a clear out, get rid of old toys and games they no longer play with, and either store them somewhere like the attic, give them to friends, or donate to a charity shop. Doing this now means there will be plenty of storage space to cope with the volume of new Christmas presents. If you have guests staying over, de cluttering will also help you to reclaim your spare bedroom so it can be used for it's intended purpose as a guest room, rather than an oversized stargaze cupboard!

Have a good clean

Whilst many people suffer from allergies like hayfever which are typically associated with the summer months, allergens in the home exist in their droves and allergies can be exacerbated during winter. As the temperature drops, many homes turn on their central heating which can lead to dry air. Opening fewer windows means the air in your home is likely to be heavier with dust and other air borne allergens, that would simply waft out of the patio doors or open windows during summer. This can spell disaster for those who are sensitive to dust. Even those that don't have allergies can find the dry air caused by central heating a problem, so have a good old clean. Wash whatever soft furnishings you can, vacuum the sofa if you have a fabric one to get rid of dust mites, give all surfaces a good clean and throw those windows open to give your home a good airing.

Should You Move Yourself Or Hire A Removals Company?

When it comes to moving home or office, you've got two main options. You can pay to have a company take care of it all and do it for you, or you can choose the DIY option. Your budget may play a key role in your decision, but regardless of how you do it, during the early decision making process, it's important to be aware of both the down sides and benefits associated with each option, which we will look at in a little more detail below. Should You Move Yourself Or Hire A Removals Company? Crate Hire UK

Important Considerations When Moving Home

Getting Professional Movers In

  • Relatively high cost
  • You don't need to do any heavy lifting
  • You may not want strangers in your home (though if you use a reputable company, they will be fully insured)
  • You will need to plan well in advance and make your booking as early as possible
  • If a house purchase does not complete on time or is significantly delayed, you may face additional financial costs or penalties

Moving Yourself

  • Great option for those on a budget as doing it  yourself is generally less expensive
  • You assume full responsibility of the entire process, including packing and transportation. This might be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it
  • Unless you have a very small amount to move, you'll need to rent a trailer or van
  • You have full flexibility and can move whenever you want and at short notice too if necessary
  • You'll handle all the boxes yourself, so you'll know exact where everything is (well, that's the theory anyway!)
  • You can rope your friends in to help, after all, many hands make light work!
  • Moving yourself can be very cost effective if you are only moving a short distance or you don't have masses of furniture and possessions to move
  • You'll need to buy or rent suitable packaging materials and crates or boxes
So there you have it, some of the considerations you'll need to bear in mind when moving and deciding if you should do it yourself or get professional removal company in to do it all for you. Whichever option you choose, we wish you the best of luck with your move and don't forget, you can find a wide range of moving crates, cardboard boxes and packaging materials here on the Crate Hire UK website.

What Packaging For Moving House?

When it comes to moving home or office, packing away your belongings is a major part of the moving process. The last thing you want is for crates to arrive at your destination with damaged contents. Picture the scene if you will. You've been lugging boxes around all day and after some frantic last minute packing of the kettle, you arrive at your destination and start carrying boxes into your new home ready to unpack, dreaming of that first refreshing cup of tea. The last thing you want, is to open up those boxes and find all your crockery smashed! Broken Crockery Crate Hire UK In order to keep any damage to your belongings down to an absolute minimum, you'll need to pay careful attention to the packaging materials that you use. As a rule this is an area that you really shouldn't try to scrimp on. If you choose to pack your belongings into plastic crates, you will be offered a greater degree of protection over cardboard boxes, however, once inside a plastic crate, your items can still become damaged.

Common Causes Of Damaged Belongings When Moving

Crates are handled roughly

Rough handling can be due to simple carelessness or the result of a crate dropping or being knocked against something. Once in the removals van, your crates may slide around and clatter against each other or even fall over. When this happens your contents will become easily damaged if they are not sufficiently protected with packaging materials.

Insufficient packaging

Even if you handle your crates carefully, damage can still occur in transit and this is a highly likely outcome when it comes to  delicate items like crockery, glassware, monitor screens and ornaments. Whilst inside the crate the contents can shift and slide into each other, making it critical that delicate items are protected and padding with at least a layer or bubble wrap, newspaper, or in the sake of monitors and TV special screen protectors.

The wrong packaging

You might have heard that wrapping plates in simple newspaper will help protect them when moving, but if a crate is dropped, damage will still occur. Newspaper will help to stop things rubbing against each other and will help avoid scratches, but extra padding will also be needed to guard against even small impacts that can cause chipping to occur. Effective Packaging Tips

  • Pack things closely together so there isn't much free space for items inside to shift around whilst in transit
  • Always double up on outer layers of bubble wrap; it's better to be safe than sorry!
  • With crockery, wrap each plate in a few sheets of newspaper and stack plates on on top of the other into small piles. Once you have a pile a few plates high, wrap the whole thing in more newspaper and finish off with a double layer of bubble wrap.
  • Never pack anything delicate at the bottom of a box with heavier items on top. Always place heavy, less delicate items on the bottom and more delicate items at the top.
  • For delicate glassware and ornaments, using a combination of shredded paper and bubble wrap will help you to protect them whilst in transit.
